The Conceptual Value Purchasing Experiment
I am not sure if I am the first artist to do this or not... but either way, if it actually begins to work, it'll be cool.
Half of the value of this art is in the unique way it is "purchased."
This art is not "for sale" by means of monetary currency--that would be too...easy. These projects are things that I have worked hard on (well, some of them anyway)... their intrinsic value surpasses the widely accepted, generic, green printed paper. Instead, I have "priced" these pieces by valueing them against a physical-something that I need, want, or just think about maybe adding to my possessions. More than the "physical-something" itself, I enjoy the effort put in by the art fan, actually having to "go out" and get this something in exchange for the art.
The value then becomes thusfold:
Anyone can sign a check, throw money at an artist, and talk about the money spent on the painting hanging on their wall... but this--THIS is art with a unique, REAL value to it! --Art with a STORY behind it. In conversation over the piece you don't discuss the amount of dollars it cost--you discuss the "something" that was traded in exchange. ...What YOU had to "go out" and do--go out and GET in exchange for this whacky art from this whacky artist... (or something like that anyway.)
Below I have listed some of the art that I have, "for sale". All prints come hand numbered and signed by the artist (me, Natural Rai). You can see that there's quite a wide range of prices... So, if you like the art, or even if you're just interested in becoming a part of this "experiment", hey, it may only cost you as much as a couple boxes of Poptarts.
